Visceral Massage
What is a Visceral Massage?
“Viscera” refers to the organs in the body. A visceral massage, otherwise known as an organ massage, is a massage therapy technique that addresses the health of the organs in your body’s systems to create a sense of complete wellbeing. It encourages the normal mobility, tone, and motion of the viscera and their connective tissues.
Why is organ motility important?
Did you know that our organs and surrounding tissues have actual ranges of motion and motility? They do, and when things aren’t moving as they should, it has a direct effect on our health, and the ability of our body to function.
Do you suffer from acid reflux, digestive issues, back pain, cramps, anxiety, PTSD, or headaches? These conditions and more can be due to constricted movement(s) of your abdominal organs and surrounding tissues.
Why do our organs and tissues lose their motility?
This happens when they become inflamed due to infections, injury, repetitive movement, diet, environmental toxins, and emotional stress. Yes, stress too! Our organs are affected by all our emotions!
What Can You Expect During the Treatment?
A massage therapist, manual osteopath, or other trained practitioner will gently massage the abdomen to encourage normal tone and mobility both within and between the internal organs, connective tissue, and other structures of the body.
The therapist will use up and down, back-to-front, and side-to-side motions to massage the organs and release restrictions in the visceral system. Gentle movements such as compression, mobilization, and elongation are also used to locate and treat dysfunctional patterns in the body that restrict movement and ultimately lead to decreased vitality.
This massage technique encourages the patients’ natural healthy mechanisms which improves organ function and metabolism, enhances mobility, and alleviates stress.
