– About the Program
Fertility is a whole-body question. We treat the whole body.
One in six Canadian couples face challenges conceiving. The reasons are rarely simple: they can involve hormonal imbalances, structural issues, stress physiology, nutritional deficiencies, immune dysregulation, or factors affecting both partners simultaneously.
Conditions we commonly treat
Our Fertility Acupuncture+ Program is built around that complexity. Rather than treating a single symptom, we map the full picture, using advanced functional testing, detailed case history, and the combined expertise of our acupuncturists, naturopathic doctors, and nurse practitioners to understand what’s actually happening in your body and address it directly.
The result is a coordinated care plan: not a single modality, but an integrative approach that combines acupuncture’s precision with the diagnostic depth of functional medicine, the hormonal expertise of our NP team, and the healing potential of Chinese herbal medicine.
We also work alongside your existing fertility team (including IVF and IUI providers at fertility clinics) so your care is coordinated, not fragmented.
– Partner Technology
Know your hormones between appointments, not just on test day.
We partner with Mira, the only at-home hormone monitor that uses immunofluorescent technology to measure LH, FSH, estrogen (E3G), and progesterone (PdG) with lab-grade accuracy. Unlike standard ovulation tests that only flag an LH surge, Mira gives your practitioner a quantitative picture of your full cycle so treatment decisions are based on what your hormones are actually doing, not just what they did on your last blood draw.
This matters more than it sounds. A cycle can look regular on the surface while showing low estrogen, poor follicular development, or a luteal phase inadequate for implantation, patterns that standard timing-based monitoring would miss entirely. We use your Mira data to confirm true ovulation (not just LH surges), assess luteal phase quality, track how your hormones respond to acupuncture and herbal protocols, and optimize treatment timing across every phase of your cycle.

Working with a Fertility Clinic? Acupuncture Can Meaningfully Improve Your Outcomes.
Research consistently shows that acupuncture combined with assisted reproductive technologies (ART) improves both conception and live birth rates, making it one of the most evidence-supported complementary therapies in reproductive medicine.
A systematic review found that acupuncture on embryo transfer day improved positive outcomes by 20%, with some studies showing up to 25% improvement when acupuncture was performed before the transfer.
Evidence shows acupuncture increases live birth rates by 30–40% when treatments are ongoing prior to conception (ideally 3–6 months) and continued during early pregnancy.
Evidence shows acupuncture helps regulate menstrual cycles in patients with PCOS in at least 50% of participants, supporting ovulation and improving hormonal markers.
– When to Start –
Nourish the soil before planting the seed: timing matters.
The last 90 days before conception are critical: this is when your egg and sperm cells are completing their development. Research in epigenetics shows that what happens during this window meaningfully influences the quality of both. We recommend beginning your program at least 3 months before trying to conceive, or as early as possible before a fertility procedure with your specialist.
Comprehensive intake. Hormone testing if indicated. Baseline cycle mapping. Initial acupuncture treatments begin.
Cycle phase–specific treatments. Nutritional and herbal support introduced. Functional results reviewed and plan refined.
Egg and sperm quality optimization peaks. Mind-body and stress support. Coordination with your fertility clinic team as needed.
First trimester acupuncture and naturopathic care for nausea, anxiety, fatigue, and ongoing pregnancy support.
– How We Help –
The specific benefits of fertility acupuncture
Fertility acupuncture works through several well-studied mechanisms, each of which addresses a distinct dimension of reproductive health in both men and women.
Hormonal balance & cycle regulation
Acupuncture regulates the hypothalamus–pituitary–ovarian axis: the hormonal communication pathway that governs your cycle. This can improve estrogen and progesterone levels, support a healthy luteal phase, reduce PMS symptoms, and promote consistent ovulation. Related: Restore+ Hormone Health Program
Uterine blood flow & endometrial lining
Increasing blood flow to the uterus thickens the endometrial lining, a key factor in successful embryo implantation. This benefit is relevant whether you’re trying naturally or preparing for an embryo transfer.
Egg quality & ovarian reserve
By improving blood flow to the ovaries and reducing oxidative stress, acupuncture can support the development of healthier eggs, particularly important for women with low ovarian reserve or those undergoing stimulation protocols.
Miscarriage prevention
Acupuncture supports miscarriage prevention by stabilizing hormones, reducing stress hormones (cortisol), and supporting immune regulation, helping prevent the immune system from attacking the early embryo.
Male fertility: sperm quality & motility
Studies published in Fertility and Sterility showed significant improvement in sperm morphology and total motility after 5 weeks of twice-weekly acupuncture in men with poor sperm quality. Acupuncture also improves testicular blood flow and reduces stress-related testosterone suppression. Related: View research →
Endometriosis & PCOS
For endometriosis, acupuncture reduces inflammation, alleviates pelvic pain, and improves estrogen clearance. For PCOS, it supports cycle regulation, ovulation induction, and insulin sensitivity, reducing the hormonal disruptions that make conception difficult. See also: Restore+ PCOS Program
Stress & HPA axis regulation
Elevated cortisol disrupts ovulation, suppresses progesterone, and impairs implantation. Acupuncture directly modulates the hypothalamus–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, reducing the physiological impact of stress on your fertility: often one of the most overlooked factors in unexplained infertility.
Immune regulation
Immune dysregulation (including NK cell activity, antiphospholipid antibodies, and chronic inflammation) can interfere with implantation and contribute to recurrent pregnancy loss. Acupuncture and naturopathic medicine can help modulate immune function alongside conventional workup.
– Integrative Care –
What sets our program apart: true integration across disciplines
Fertility acupuncture is the foundation, but our program offers something no single-modality clinic can: a coordinated team across acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, nurse practitioner-led hormone care, and functional medicine diagnostics. We also partner with Mira to bring real-time at-home hormone tracking into your care plan.
Naturopathic Medicine
Our NDs address root causes including hormonal imbalances, thyroid dysfunction, nutritional deficiencies, and metabolic issues, using evidence-informed herbal medicine, supplements, and lifestyle interventions to optimize your reproductive terrain.
Functional Medicine & Hormone Testing
We use advanced diagnostics including DUTCH hormone testing, salivary hormone panels, and metabolic assessments to map the exact imbalances affecting your fertility, moving beyond guesswork to targeted intervention.
Massage Therapy & Mind-Body Support
Fertility massage supports circulation, reduces stress hormones, and can help break down adhesions that may affect reproductive organs. Our RMTs offer preconception massage for both partners, alongside mind-body therapies for emotional resilience throughout your journey.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Customized herbal formulas address each phase of the menstrual cycle, from follicular development through ovulation and the luteal phase, to support conception through the full month, not just on treatment days.
Nurse Practitioner-Led Primary Care
Our NPs can order lab work, prescribe medications, and coordinate with your specialist team, bridging the gap between our integrative care and your reproductive endocrinologist or OB-GYN.
Inclusive Fertility Care
We provide affirming fertility care for individuals and couples of all identities (including 2SLGBTQI+ families), tailoring our program to each person’s unique biology, path to parenthood, and goals.
– Common Questions –
Frequently asked questions
How does fertility acupuncture actually work?
Acupuncture modulates the nervous system’s communication with your hormonal system, directly influencing the hypothalamus–pituitary–ovarian axis. This means it can regulate cycle timing, promote ovulation, improve uterine blood flow, support implantation, and reduce the physiological effects of stress: all measurable biological effects, not just relaxation.
How soon should I start before trying to conceive?
We recommend starting at least 3 months before trying to conceive. This covers the full cycle of egg maturation (oocyte development) and sperm cell generation: the period during which treatment has the most meaningful impact on egg and sperm quality.
Can I use acupuncture alongside IVF or IUI at my fertility clinic?
Yes, and the research supports doing so. Acupuncture integrates safely with IVF and IUI protocols and can meaningfully improve outcomes. We coordinate care timing around your transfer schedule, medication protocol, and retrieval dates. We’re happy to communicate with your fertility clinic team as needed.
Should my partner come for treatment too?
We strongly recommend it. With declining sperm quality widely documented, male fertility is a significant factor in 40–50% of cases. Acupuncture can improve sperm count, motility, and morphology, and we often find that treating both partners produces better outcomes than treating one in isolation.
How often will I need to come in?
Frequency varies by individual and phase of your cycle. Typical starting frequency is once to twice per week. Your practitioner will adjust this based on your specific situation, cycle timing, and any ART protocol you may be following.
What if I have a diagnosis like PCOS or endometriosis?
These are conditions we work with regularly and our program is well-suited to address them. For PCOS, we focus on cycle regulation, insulin sensitivity, and ovulation support. For endometriosis, on pain reduction, inflammation management, and improving the hormonal environment for conception. See our dedicated Restore+ PCOS Program.
Do you support LGBTQ+ families?
Absolutely. We provide inclusive fertility care tailored to the unique needs of all individuals and families, including 2SLGBTQI+ couples and individuals, with sensitivity to the specific biological and logistical aspects of each person’s path to parenthood.
Is acupuncture safe once I become pregnant?
Yes. We recommend continuing acupuncture through the first trimester, where it can help with nausea, fatigue, anxiety, and spotting. Our practitioners are trained in safe prenatal protocols. Many of our fertility patients transition into ongoing pregnancy support with us.

“As a clinician and leader, I see myself not only as a caregiver but also as a teacher—empowering patients with the knowledge and tools they need to take charge of their health. By educating and guiding them, I can help transform their lives far beyond the treatment room, creating lasting wellness that they can carry with them. – Dr. Tammy Lalonde”
Caring for people is my true passion and one of life’s greatest callings. With years of experience as both a Paramedic and Acupuncturist, I’ve supported patients through obvious and invisible injuries alike. I’ve been there during moments of deep crisis – delivering babies in cars parked roadside, providing care at 30,000 feet, or flying emergency medevacs over the Arabian desert. Through these experiences, I’ve learned not just how to care for people in urgent need but how lasting health is built over time through lifestyle, nutrition, and proactive care.
Over the years, my focus has shifted toward prevention – helping people earlier, before minor concerns turn into complex conditions. A big part of that work is my role in leading our Hormone Health program, where we help patients address hormonal imbalances that impact energy, mood, sleep, and overall quality of life.
To better support our patients and lead in this evolving area of care, I’ve earned certification as a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP) – a designation held by only a select number of clinicians across Canada. This credential reflects a high level of expertise in evidence-based menopause and hormone health management. Combined with advanced training in Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) through Worldlink Medical, this dual focus allows me to guide our Hormone Health program with clinical depth, strategic vision, and a commitment to whole-person care.
My academic journey has allowed me to bridge Eastern and Western medicine into a truly holistic care model. I have a particular passion for working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, and PTSD, including those in the Armed Forces and Emergency Services. With a career spanning North America and the Middle East, I’ve served as a clinician, educator, and emergency medical dispatcher.
I hold active licensure and registration with the College of Acupuncturists of Alberta (CAA), the California Acupuncture Board, the Alberta Herbalists Association (AHA), and the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). I’ve also served as a Board Director with the Alberta Pain Society and currently sit on the CAA Competence Committee.
