Before you contact a location

Most locations need a referral, and the product decides the cost.

72 of the 101 locations require a referral from another provider, and every Alberta Health Services site is in that group. 14 assess and prescribe in house, so a patient can approach them directly, a further 9 need only a prescription or will take either, and 6 publish no requirement either way, which is not the same as having none. The Access column records what each location’s own page says. Several of these were recorded the other way round until we opened every page on September 27, 2026.

For the Alberta Health Services sites, the listings state that a referral is required but not who may send one or how it should be sent. You will need to call the site to find that out.

Which iron product is prescribed changes where the infusion can happen and what it costs. Alberta’s Provincial Adult Iron Deficiency Anemia Primary Care Clinical Pathway, published by Primary Care Alberta and updated June 3, 2026, states that iron sucrose (Venofer) and sodium ferric gluconate (Ferrlecit) “can be infused at AHS facilities” with “no cost for visit or medication”, completed over multiple visits, and that ferric carboxymaltose (Ferinject) and iron isomaltoside 1000 (Monoferric) require an Alberta Blue Cross special authorization form, with the patient obtaining the drug from their own pharmacy and bringing it to the infusion centre, generally in one visit. Local variations exist.

The same pathway states that IV iron is available in Day Medicine, Day Treatment and parenteral therapy departments in most hospitals in Alberta, and directs providers to search the Alberta Referral Directory for “IV iron”, noting that results are zone dependent.

Two entries on this list are narrower than the rest. The Patient Blood Management Program in the Calgary and Edmonton zones, also called Anemia Management, is for preoperative and prenatal patients. The Calgary listing states it does not accept referrals for patients who are not facing surgical procedures.

What we observed

Almost all the rural coverage we found is public.

Of the 101 locations, 34 are in Edmonton and its surrounding towns and 23 in Calgary and its surrounding towns. The remaining 44 are spread across the rest of the province.

21 of the Alberta Health Services sites on this list are healthcare centres in smaller northern communities, listed under a single shared outpatient service description. Outside Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Camrose, Lacombe, Lloydminster, Bonnyville and Athabasca, we did not identify a private location anywhere in Alberta.

We searched more than forty towns outside the two metropolitan areas for private locations and found none in most of them, including Okotoks, Strathmore, High River, Canmore, Banff, Drayton Valley, Rocky Mountain House, Stettler, Drumheller, Wetaskiwin, Ponoka, Brooks, Taber, Pincher Creek, Peace River, High Level, Valleyview and Grande Cache. That does not necessarily mean no location offers IV iron there; a family practice or hospital department may offer it without saying so on a website. A clinic with no website at all is invisible to the way we built this list.

Several locations we looked at run outpatient IV therapy without naming iron anywhere on their own pages. Where that location is a hospital department, we have listed it with a question mark; there are 7 of those, all of them Alberta Health Services sites. Where it is a private clinic advertising a vitamin or hydration drip menu, we have left it off, because nothing on the page suggests IV iron is available.

We can only list what we could find online, and only as it was when we looked.

Red Leaf Wellness treats patients from across Alberta, in our Edmonton clinic and by virtual appointment. Our practitioners order ferritin and iron studies, and when a result points toward IV iron, the next question is always where a patient can actually go. That answer is different in Fort McMurray than it is in Calgary.

So we kept a list for our own use: which locations we could find offering outpatient IV iron, in which communities, and what their own websites or service listings said. We have published it because it may be useful to others.

What we checked, and what we left out.

This is a descriptive list of Alberta locations that appear to offer outpatient IV iron infusions, compiled by Red Leaf Wellness as an operational resource. It is not a complete list, and it is not a ranking, endorsement, or comparison of any location, clinic or practitioner. Inclusion does not imply any relationship with Red Leaf Wellness, except where a listing’s source label says otherwise. Locations are listed alphabetically within each community.

How it was built

Candidate locations were identified through web search, public directories and AI-assisted research tools. Every listing was then checked against its own website, booking page, or Alberta Health Services service listing, except where a clinic gave us the information directly. Locations we could not verify are not published; 30 were held back for that reason. A location is included only where that page names iron infusion, IV iron, or a named IV iron product, with two exceptions. 7 hospital outpatient departments are included with a question mark where the listing shows an outpatient IV infusion service without naming iron. And where the information was not publicly available, a clinic may be listed because it contacted us and told us directly; its source label says so. Locations advertising only general IV therapy, vitamin or hydration drips are not included. The Source column shows where each listing’s details came from, and flags where the evidence comes from a shared service-level or operator-level page rather than that specific site.

Where a location publishes a referral form, we link it only if we opened the link ourselves and it loaded; 35 of the 101 carry a form link on that basis, and a few that publish a form are shown without one because the link did not load for us. Every listed location carries an instruction. These notes describe a location’s stated process, not our assessment of it.

We have not checked any practitioner named on a listed website against the register of their professional College, and a name appearing on a listed website does not mean we have confirmed that person’s registration. Nothing on this page came from a College register, and nothing here should be read as coming from a regulator. Where a location states who administers or oversees its infusions, we have recorded that only as the location states it about itself. Rules on who may administer or oversee IV iron differ by provider type and by province, and we make no statement about them.

Locations open, move and close, services change, and websites are not always current, so details here may be out of date or incorrect, and some locations are likely missing. Red Leaf Wellness cannot guarantee accuracy or completeness. Please confirm details directly with a location before relying on them. Our practitioners in Edmonton, and by virtual appointment across Alberta, can review iron studies as part of a broader assessment and discuss options with you, including a referral elsewhere if that is what makes sense. Virtual care does not fit every concern, and your practitioner will tell you if yours needs an in-person visit.
