Yes. All prescription based therapies, whether new or ongoing, require a scheduled clinical appointment with a licensed prescriber. This includes new prescriptions, renewals, and any dosage adjustments. Appointments may take place in clinic or virtually by secure video. If video is not available, a phone visit may be used as a backup.
This process exists to protect your safety and to comply with provincial Standards of Practice, professional liability requirements, and applicable federal regulations, including the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for certain components of BHRT. Many therapies within our hormone health program involve complex and potent medications that require ongoing clinical oversight to be adjusted safely and effectively.
Prescription renewals or changes cannot be processed by email, voicemail, or informal phone requests without a valid consultation. Prescription related services are not included in base service fees, and this is communicated both verbally and in writing.
Occasionally, your pharmacy may send a fax requesting a renewal or a minor dosage change. If you have had a recent appointment, your lab work is current, and the request is clinically appropriate, your NP may approve it at their discretion based on your chart. If these criteria are not met, the request will be declined and you will be asked to book a follow up visit to ensure your care remains safe and aligned with your treatment plan.
