In Alberta, Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) are not authorized to prescribe bioidentical hormones. Only licensed Medical Doctors (MDs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and other healthcare providers with prescribing authority can prescribe bioidentical hormones.

Prescribing Authority in Other Provinces:

  • British Columbia: NDs with appropriate certification have limited prescribing rights, allowing them to prescribe certain medications, including some bioidentical hormones, under specific conditions.

  • Ontario: NDs can prescribe a defined list of substances, including certain bioidentical hormones, provided they have completed the necessary training and certifications.
