Edmonton Massage Therapy: Registered RMTs, Direct Billing & Holistic Care

– Massage Therapy · Edmonton, AB –

Massage therapy that treats what is driving your pain.

Most clinics offer a room and a modality menu. We offer a clinical plan and a coordinated team.

Whether you are looking for a registered massage therapist in Edmonton for injury recovery, pregnancy support, MVA care, or chronic pain management, our registered massage therapists build a treatment plan around your specific presentation. All of our RMTs hold membership with a recognized professional association and have completed 2,200 to 3,000 hours of accredited clinical training. They work from a clinical intake, not a spa menu.

Our massage therapy team works alongside acupuncturists, naturopathic doctors, and nurse practitioners at our Glenora District clinic in Edmonton, Alberta. Voted Best Massages Clinic in Edmonton five consecutive years. No referral required. Direct billing available.

Deep Tissue Massage
Sustained pressure applied to deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Most effective for chronic tension, postural holding patterns, and soft tissue injuries. Treatment is intake-driven: your therapist assesses what is driving the tension before addressing it. Read more about deep tissue massage benefits.

Therapist performing relaxation massage with long flowing strokes on client's lower back

Relaxation (Swedish) Massage
Long, flowing strokes that calm the nervous system, improve circulation, and reduce the physical effects of chronic stress. An effective entry point for clients new to massage therapy and a valuable maintenance treatment for ongoing stress or disrupted sleep.

Prenatal & Pregnancy Massage
Adapted for the physical demands of pregnancy, addressing lower back pain, hip tightness, swelling, and disrupted sleep. Performed only by RMTs with specialized prenatal training and offered during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. May be coordinated with naturopathic or nurse practitioner support from our broader clinical team.

Massage therapist working on client's knee and leg muscles for sports injury recovery

Sports Massage
Addresses demands placed on the musculoskeletal system through training, competition, and recovery. Applied pre-activity to prepare tissue and reduce injury risk, or post-activity to support recovery and address acute strain. Common presentations: IT band, runner’s knee, rotator cuff, plantar fasciitis, shin splints.

Therapist applying gentle lymphatic drainage massage technique to client's torso

Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Gentle, rhythmic technique to support movement of lymphatic fluid through the body. Appropriate for lymphedema, post-surgical swelling, chronic inflammation, and immune support. Differs significantly from standard massage in both pressure and intention. Contraindications assessed at intake. Also see: visceral massage in Edmonton.

RAPID NeuroFascial Reset certified technique

A neurologically-informed technique that addresses the relationship between the nervous system and the fascial network. Works at a neurological level to interrupt pain signals and restore movement. Hot Stone Massage
Heated basalt stones are placed along the spine and key muscle groups, then used as a massage tool to melt deep tension and improve circulation. The sustained heat allows for deeper tissue work with less pressure – particularly effective for chronic tension, poor circulation, and stress-related holding patterns.

Our Massage Therapy Practitioners

– Before You Book –

What to know about massage therapy in Edmonton.

Regulation, insurance, appointment flexibility, and how your NP can help you access coverage answered clearly before you book.

Professionally Trained RMTs
Massage therapy is not yet regulated in Alberta – a formal application was submitted to the provincial government in October 2024 and is under review. In the meantime, our RMTs complete 2,200 to 3,000 hours of accredited clinical training and hold active membership with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC). NHPC membership is recognized by most extended health benefit plans for direct billing and reimbursement purposes.
Direct billing available
We bill most major insurers directly through Telus Health eClaims. You pay only your out-of-pocket portion, or nothing at all if your plan covers the full session. Note: Alberta Health Care (AHCIP) does not cover massage therapy, but most private and employer-sponsored plans do, typically $500 to $1,000 per year. See our Service Fees page.
Flexible sessions, coordinated care
Sessions run from 30 to 90 minutes and are structured around your specific presentation. If your condition benefits from more than one modality, your appointment can be coordinated with acupuncture or manual osteopathy in the same visit or across the same week. One clinic, one intake, one care plan.
Already seeing our NP? Ask about a massage Rx
Some insurance plans require a nurse practitioner or physician referral before they will reimburse massage therapy claims at all. If you are already working with one of our nurse practitioners on another concern, ask whether a massage prescription fits your care plan. It is a simple step that may unlock coverage you otherwise could not access.

Frequently Asked Questions: Massage Therapy Edmonton

Massage therapy is not covered by Alberta Health Care (AHCIP). However, most private and employer-sponsored extended health benefit plans include massage therapy coverage, typically ranging from $500 to $1,000 per year. Plans through Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Alberta Blue Cross, and most employer group benefits commonly include massage coverage when provided by a massage therapist who holds membership with a recognized professional association such as the NHPC. At Red Leaf Wellness, we offer direct billing to most major insurers through Telus Health eClaims and all of our RMTs hold active NHPC membership, which is recognized by most plans for reimbursement. You can review our full fee schedule and confirm coverage before booking.
Massage therapy in Edmonton generally ranges from $90 to $160 per session depending on duration and treatment type. Current fees at Red Leaf Wellness are listed on our Service Fees page. With extended health benefits and direct billing through Telus Health eClaims, many patients pay $0 per session. Bring your insurance card to your first appointment and our team will manage the direct billing process on your behalf.
In a clinical setting with a registered massage therapist, tipping is not expected. Your RMT is a trained health professional: the relationship is clinical, not service-based. If you want to express appreciation, a Google review, a referral to a friend or family member, or a note to us about your experience means more to our team than a gratuity.
Research supports a meaningful connection between massage therapy and cortisol reduction. Studies reviewed in the International Journal of Neuroscience have found that massage is associated with reductions in salivary cortisol and increases in serotonin and dopamine. For patients managing chronic stress, anxiety, or burnout, massage therapy can be a meaningful component of a broader care plan, which at Red Leaf Wellness may also include support from our Emotional Health Program.
It depends on your goals and presentation. For general stress management and wellness maintenance, monthly massage is a common recommendation. For active injury recovery, chronic pain management, or postpartum support, your RMT may recommend sessions every one to two weeks initially, scaling back as the presentation improves. Your registered massage therapist will outline a recommended treatment plan at your first appointment based on your specific situation.
No referral is needed. You can book directly online or by phone. No physician referral is required and same-week appointments are typically available. If your insurance plan requires a referral to access additional annual coverage beyond your standard benefit, our nurse practitioners can assist with that process.
Yes, and for many patients this is where the most significant results occur. Red Leaf Wellness is one of the few clinics in Edmonton where acupuncturists, naturopathic doctors, and nurse practitioners work as a coordinated team alongside registered massage therapists. If your condition has hormonal, metabolic, or pharmaceutical dimensions alongside its physical presentation, your massage therapist can refer you internally with no external referral required.

Ready to book? No referral needed.

Same-week appointments are typically available. Our registered massage therapists are accepting new patients, serving patients from across Edmonton including west, south, and north Edmonton. Direct billing to most insurance plans, free parking, no waitlist.
