What Is Energy Healing?

Energy healing is an umbrella term for modalities specialized in stimulating and correcting impaired energy centers and points littered throughout both the physical and nonphysical bodies. This is the energy (Qi) that flows through us and around us, which keeps us alive and well. However, blockages and disruptions to the flow of this vital energy system occur regularly, affecting our health, and the energy healing modalities are powerful allies in supporting our health and wellbeing.

Which Modalities Are Forms of Energy Healing?

Energy healing includes, but is not limited to, Acupuncture, Reiki, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST), Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and Biodynamic Energetic Therapy (BET).

Of the listed modalities above, acupuncture is the only modality that uses tools such as needles to stimulate the energy points (aka acupoints that correspond to different organs and their functions).

Modalities such as traditional Reiki and BCST use physical touch to stimulate the offending energy points. Off-shoots or hybrid forms of Reiki hover their hands over the body stimulating the energy fields around the body, the internal energy centers (chakras), pathways (meridians), and points.

Modalities such as Qi Gong, Tai Chi, BCST, and BET stimulate the practitioner’s mind and body to influence the flow of energy (Qi) and other vital fluids within the body.

In the advanced forms of Reiki & Qi Gong the practitioner projects their energy and vibration externally to themselves through thought or subtle forms of meditation. Biodynamic Energetic Therapy (BET) is a nonphysical therapy projected through focused thought similar to that of Qi Gong & Tai Chi.

What Can Cause Imbalances in The Body?

Note: The information below can be found on Pg. 222 & 223 of “The Subtle Body: An Encyclopedia of Your Energetic Anatomy”.

Qi Conditions:

Deficient Qi: Not enough Qi to perform the necessary functions.

Sinking or collapsed Qi: The Qi cannot perform its supportive functions.

Stagnated Qi: The Qi flow is impaired. If congested or stuck in an organ, there can be pain, sluggishness, or stiffness.

Rebellious Qi: The Qi flows in the wrong direction.

Core Blood Patterns:

Blood Deficiency:

Because of Spleen Qi deficiency (in providing necessary support materials), the Heart and Liver are negatively affected. The Heart governs blood, and the Liver stores it. Lacking Qi, the Heart cannot effectively pump the blood and the Liver cannot properly cleanse it.

Blood Stagnation:

The blood is not flowing normally because of an obstruction.

Fluid (Jin Ye) Issues:

Fluid deficiency:

Too much heat or dryness, or deficient blood can create dryness.

Stagnation of fluids:

If the yang energy cannot transport the fluids, they can accumulate to cause dampness (such as edema or phlegm).

The above problems can combine to create Qi and blood deficiency, and/or stagnation. A scenario might involve the stagnation of Qi over time, which creates stagnation in the blood. Conversely, blood deficiency can also lead to Qi deficiency; if the Qi cannot move the blood, the result might be stagnated blood.

For example, a disorder might be described as an invasion of “Wind-Cold” or “Wind-Heat.” As you might imagine, Wind-Cold might produce chills or dampness whereas Wind-Heat could result in fevers and sweating.

General traditional theory asserts that when under stress, the body’s meridian system becomes imbalanced. Many factors cause stress, including physical, psychological issues, biochemical problems, and electromagnetic difficulties such as geopathic stress. Even natural environmental factors such as excess cold, damp, wind, dryness, or heat can create imbalances. Under duress, the blood, Qi, and fluid cannot flow normally, which usually leads to congestion (excess or blockage) or depletion (deficiency or weakness). Symptoms of these imbalances can be found throughout the meridians even before they manifest physically. Once these problems appear physically, these underlying causes can impede the body’s healing ability.

What Energy Healing Therapists Do

The Energy Healing Therapist essentially stimulates the energy points to restore balance in both the steady flow of energy and the balance between the two opposing, but complimentary halves that make up Qi (Yin and Yang energy). For example, stagnant Qi calls for stimulation and deficient Qi needs warmth.

Biodynamic Energetic Therapy (BET)

Biodynamic Energetic Therapy (BET) is a clothed, nonphysical, and dynamic energy practice. The therapist stimulates the energy/body systems in need of balancing and assists one’s body by cycling the Qi, blood & other fluids in the body. This helps to correct any deficiencies and symptoms created by blockages and stagnation.

Think about your circulatory, respiratory, and neurological systems, for example. Any blockages or stagnation here can present in an array of less-than-ideal symptoms such as pain, shortness of breath, migraines, and numbness.

Now, it took time for your symptoms to present, so it takes time to reverse. This restorative process can take several hours of rebalancing to correct the impaired systems in question.

BET sessions can be done in person, on their own, or in combination with a massage treatment (allows access to direct billing and insurance reimbursement). Sessions can also be performed remotely through an online appointment, wherever you are!

Note: While we do offer BET treatments in combination with Massage Therapy, they are more effective when performed on their own. This is because it allows the practitioner to focus on one form of therapy at a time. And the longer the treatment, the more effective the outcomes, as the energy and fluids cycle from one system to the other, eventually correcting symptoms and ailments presented by acute and/or chronic issues.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST)

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a fully clothed therapy that includes gentle, skilled and attuned touch. It helps to ease the central nervous system, release chronic tension, support the body’s natural healing and self-repair processes, and improve overall health and well-being.

The energy and fluids that flow through our bodies has its own rhythm which the therapist can sense and use to locate blockages. There’s no “correcting,” only gentle guidance as our therapist encourages your body’s intelligence to work on its own and do what is best for your overall well-being.

Through this gentle touch, you will be guided to explore what you are feeling, amplify the awareness of your body, and bring to light any unconscious and habitual tensions you may be holding on to. When your brain becomes conscious of them, you can then begin to create change through healing and restoring vitality, connection, and balance in your body.

Reiki

Reiki is a fully clothed energy therapy technique used to leverage universal energy into unblocking and balancing your chakras. During these sessions, the practitioner will place their hands gently on or over your body, focusing on the body’s chakras and meridians. Their hands act as a conduit to not only draw energy into your body, but to also enable you to connect with your innate ability to heal.

When this energy is drawn into your body through the palms of the practitioner, it eases out any physical or emotional blocks that prevent the movement of higher vibrational energy from flowing freely throughout your body. By clearing these blockages, it encourages both emotional and physical healing.

Reiki is also a form of guided meditation that can promote a state of relaxation as well as physical, mental, and emotional balance. Other benefits of Reiki include the release of tension from the body, immune system support, improved focus, and better sleep.

Sessions can be experienced in-person or online.

Qi Gong

Qi Gong is a form of active meditation led by a skilled practitioner. Sessions include slow movements, natural breathing, and gentle stretching and movement. The practice balances energy flow and brings the body, breath, and mind into harmony through movements that are in tune with nature.

Qi Gong practice assists in healing and helps to sustain health and well-being, prevent disease, and treat chronic and pain-related conditions. Sessions are relaxing, energizing, and rejuvenating while supporting mental clarity and emotional balance.

Qi Gong movements can also improve your alignment, posture, and body awareness as well as regulate the nervous system and reduce muscle tension.

Each movement supports the body in a different way. So, a skilled practitioner can help guide you through your practice in a way that will support your body’s imbalances. They can also help guide and manipulate the movement of Qi during sessions and provide you with exercises to do at home between sessions.
