Heavy bleeding can occasionally occur with BHRT. If this happens:

  • Your practitioner may recommend stopping estrogen temporarily, as most menopausal women using estrogen for symptom relief (e.g., hot flashes) already have sufficient levels.
  • Progesterone doses may also be adjusted to help regulate menstrual flow.
  • In some cases, testosterone cream may be prescribed to manage estrogen deficiency symptoms without contributing to heavy bleeding.
