While Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) is generally well-tolerated, some symptoms may indicate a serious medical condition that requires immediate attention. If you experience any of the following, seek emergency care first, and notify our clinic afterward if relevant. We are not an emergency clinic and cannot assess or manage medical emergencies.
1. Cardiovascular Symptoms
- Chest pain or pressure (especially if it radiates to the arm, neck, or jaw)
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Rapid or irregular heartbeat
- Sudden dizziness or fainting
2. Stroke-Like Symptoms
- Sudden weakness or numbness in the face, arm, or leg (especially on one side of the body)
- Confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech
- Severe headache with no known cause
- Sudden vision changes or loss of coordination
3. Blood Clot Warning Signs
- Unexplained swelling, redness, or pain in the leg (especially one-sided)
- Sharp chest pain with difficulty breathing (possible pulmonary embolism)
4. Severe Allergic Reactions
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Severe hives or skin rash
5. Other Serious Symptoms
- Severe abdominal pain or vomiting blood
- Unexplained heavy vaginal bleeding
- Severe mood changes, confusion, or thoughts of self-harm
What Should I Do If I Experience These Symptoms?
- Seek emergency medical care immediately for any severe or concerning symptoms. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room if needed.
- If your symptoms are urgent but not life-threatening, consult a physician as soon as possible, whether through your family doctor, an urgent care clinic, or a virtual care provider.
- If you believe your symptoms may be related to BHRT, do not stop your medication on your own. Instead, have your condition evaluated by a healthcare provider who can determine whether stopping or adjusting your treatment is necessary.
- If you experience a potential allergic reaction (e.g., swelling, difficulty breathing, severe rash), immediately seek emergency care and notify us afterward so we can adjust your treatment plan if needed.
- Once your immediate medical needs have been addressed, you may book a follow-up appointment with us to discuss whether any modifications to your BHRT are required.
Your safety is our priority. If you experience symptoms that could be serious, always seek urgent or emergency care first, and follow up with us once your condition has been assessed.
